Chat with former MLB pitcher Jacob Turner

Considered the “best high school right-hander available by consensus” by Baseball America in 2009, Jacob Turner Drafted ninth overall by the Tigers from Westminster Christian Academy in Missouri. Advisor Scott Boras was able to sign the 18-year-old Turner to his $5.5 million major league contract. Most of it came in the form of signing bonuses.

After spending two years in the minors, MLB.com ranked Turner the 15th prospect in the game, ahead of future stars such as Nolan Arenado, Zach Wheeler and Francisco Lindo. Turner made his MLB debut at the age of 20 and Jim was a good pitcher against the Angels with his Leyland Tigers. At that point in late 2011, Turner was profiled as a future number two or three starter in the majors.

The following year, Turner earned his first major league victory on July 22 against the White Sox. The 2012 Tigers went on to win the pennant, but did so without Turner. The day after that his first career W, they sent him to the Marlins for quicker help in the form of Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante.

By late May 2013, Turner had secured a spot in the Marlins’ rotation featuring Jose Fernandez, Tom Koehler, Ricky Nolasco, Nathan Iovaldi and Henderson Alvarez. Turner’s 22-year-old season would be his best as he made 20 starts that year with a 3.74 ERA.

Things changed in 2014 as Turner lost both his rotation and 40-man roster spot with the Marlins and joined the Cubs on a waiver claim. An elbow injury ruined Turner’s 2015 season, ending in a crosstown waiver claim by the White Sox. Transferred to Tigers.

Turner’s time in the MLB ended before his 30th birthday. It certainly wasn’t the career expected of him when he was starring in High School and Minor. However, he is still in contention for part of seven seasons with the Biggs, throwing 369 innings and making 56 starts.The 22-year-old boy said he was pretty good in the majors in 2013, and that year he was a 5 times, at least he pitched 7 innings. His one of his career highlights was his one-run complete game victory over the Padres that year. In this 7 of his seasons, Turner produced many star players, including Bryce Harper, Buster Posey, Carlos Beltrán, Jose Bautista, Nolan Arenado, David Wright and Freddie Freeman.
