ATHENS—– Three former Georgia Bulldogs — one student-athlete and two coaches — highlight the 2023 class of inductees into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon next month.

Bulldog All-America tennis standout Al Parker, former football coach Mark Licht and former baseball coach Steve Webber are among those inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 25.^th The annual induction ceremony is held at the historic Macon City Auditorium.

Prior to his career with the Bulldogs, Parker had established himself as one of the greatest junior tennis players in history with a record 25 titles. He won a Junior Tennis Grand Slam and is the only player to win all singles and doubles national titles in one year. During his time in Georgia from 1988 to his 1991, he won his two national singles titles and ten singles and doubles titles. An All-American on the court all four years, he had a 4.0 grade point average and was named All-American of the Year at the 1991 Academic Years. He was inducted into the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame in 2003 and the University Tennis Hall of Fame in 2007.


Licht led the Bulldogs from 2001 to 2015, winning two Southeastern Conference titles (2002, 2005) and six SEC East Division titles. His career record at Athens was 145-51. He then returned to his alma mater, the University of Miami, where he served as head coach for his three years until his retirement. He founded the Paul Oliver Network, a program to support Letterman in his transition to post-football life. He currently lives in Athens, is active in his service to the community and is an analyst for the ACC Network. Earlier this month, it was announced that he had been inducted into his College Football Hall of Fame.


Webber is the Bulldogs’ most winning baseball coach in baseball history, reaching the pinnacle of the sport in 1990, with 16 seasons under his command. Georgia became the first his SEC team to win a College World Series (CWS) title. He led Georgia to his first CWS in 1987, was named SEC Coach of the Year, and earned National Coach of the Year honors in 1990. After a career as a coach in college, he went to New York for the Yankees, San Diego for the Padres, and Houston Astros for his minor league affiliates, while also becoming his pitching coach for several professional organizations. Additional members of the 2023 class are Jackie Bradford, Buck Godfrey, Andrew Jones, Sean Jones, Stan Kasten and Ron Reed. In addition to Webber, additional Legends classes taking posthumous appointments this year include former Florida State/Georgia Southern baseball coach Jack Sterlings, Georgia Tech/Denver Broncos standout Demaryius Thomas, and Georgia Military College football coach Bert Williams. am.
