MANILA, PHILIPPINES—Filipinos Aaron Jude Bud and Flint Jarrah advanced to the gold medal round in their respective weight classes at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday.

Bud won his class in the men’s flyweight semifinals, beating Malaysia’s Qayyum Ariffin 5-0 unanimously.

Jara, meanwhile, had to overcome a tough challenge from Mongolia’s Gambold Drujimbu in a split decision 3-2 to secure a spot in the men’s bantamweight final.

Bud is expected to have a tougher time in the championship round against home bet Tanarat Senfet, who beat Uzbekistan’s Muhammad Kodir Mamirjonov 5-0.

Jara will face Kazakhstan’s Nursultan Altumbek for the bantamweight gold medal.

Altunbek defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Islam Tolobayev 5-0 in the semi-finals.

However, two other Filipino players, Jericho Akailar and Mark Lester Durens, failed to reach the final.

Featherweight Akailar lost by unanimous decision to Kazakhstan’s Makmud Sabilkan, while minimumweight Duren did the same to Uzbekistan’s Shodyorjan Melikdiev.

Melikdiev is one of 10 Uzbeks competing for gold in Wednesday’s final.
