SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Lauri Markkanen scored 25 points on Monday night as the Utah Jazz beat the Cold War Charlotte Hornets 120-102.
The Hornets made only two 3-pointers by Terry Rozier. Charlotte over the arc she had 16 shots, her 12.5% shooting percentage, while the Jazz made 16 of her 40. Charlotte’s all-time low this season was his 3 in his 5th, most recently his record in Milwaukee on December 3rd.
Jordan Clarkson scored 18 points and Mike Conley added 14 points for the Jazz to 3 of 4 wins.
Rozier scored 23 points and Mason Plumlee scored 18 points for the Hornets, who were chasing a three-game winning streak for the first time this season.
Charlotte’s top scorer, Lamelo Ball, missed the second game with ankle and wrist pain. Dennis Smith Jr. with the Hornets he scored 15 and he had nine assists.
After leading by 10 after the third quarter, Utah went on an 18-4 run interrupted by a Walker Kessler dunk to make it 107-83 with 6:07 remaining.
The Jazz pushed the Hornets off the three-point line, giving the basket a long two-point jumper and a wild drive. Meanwhile, the Jazz used a sharp pass to find his shooter for an open 3-pointer and run down the lane.
Eleven of Utah’s first 15 field goals were 3, but the Hornets missed their first seven tries from long range. The Jazz led 58-45 at halftime, even though he made three fewer field goals.
