Our list of 25 Men’s Basketball Players to Watch includes groups that we think will have an impact on any particular season, and are worth checking out firsthand at some point.

There is no exact science to this. Not everyone you’ve listed works all the time. Then consider a few more players and then quit. Not everyone can do it.

Below are five players who weren’t on the preseason list and responded with impressions Game In and Game Out.

Jalen Brown

norwalk junior

statistics: It was a tough season for Norwalk, with just two wins, but a glorious season for Brown. He scored 54 points in his 88–82 double overtime loss to Greenwich. Brown is averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals with the Bears, making his FCIAC very balanced so far.

Quintin Floyd

Windsor's Quintin Floyd (2) is on offense, while Ridgefield's Ben Klotz (23) is on defense in the CIAC division. I Boys Basketball Quarterfinals at Ridgefield on Monday March 14, 2022.

Windsor Jr.

statistics: Floyd shined in the Spalding Hoophall Classic, finishing with a triple-double (11 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists) in a win over Springfield Central and earning the Player of the Game laurels. He tallied his 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and earned Player of the Game honors at his GHPA Classic in December. This contrasts with his 26-point performance of Jason Williams. Floyd is averaging 17 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals per game for the Warriors in fifth place.

Jamie Leggett

St Paul's Jamie Leggett scored 30 points, including the 1,000th of his career, in St Paul's 69–65 extra time victory over Oxford on 20 January 2023.

St Paul Sr.

statistics: Leggett has appeared several times on GameTimeCT’s weekly top performers list. This included when Leggett scored his 30th point this week, including St. His pole’s extra-time victory over Oxford. Leggett is averaging 24.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists this season, achieving his improved and balanced NVL. Leggett is going to play baseball in college next year.

East Catholic, Senior

statistics: Riley isn’t going to impress you with numbers – scoring is spread – but he can impress you with his defense. He defended Floyd and kept the junior guard scoreless. He draws that defensive assignment frequently. His father – Luke Riley – calls him a “defensive stopper.” Riley Jr. also makes his throws free when it counts, and he can knock down his shot on the perimeter when the team helps teammate James his Jones. Reilly Jr. won’t always show up in his scores in the box, but it will help a lot if his Catholic East repeats as his CIAC Division I state champion.

Bloomfield, Sof.

statistics: Williams recently scored 52 points in a win over Rocky Hill. Among them he included 13 of his 3-pointers. Williams quickly landed in the basket and has been a key cog in the Warhawks’ seven straight wins, including his 92-88 win at Windsor. With this win, the Warhawks placed him ninth in GameTimeCT’s top ten polls. Williams is averaging 23 points, 3.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game with Bloomfield.
