free agent infielder Yoo Chan Interest is reportedly coming from three big league teams (CPBL statistics from h/t).

Chan, 27, played for four teams last year: Guardians, Red Sox, Pirates and Rays. He combined for a .208/.289/.315 batting average and had 190 at-bats with four homers, a 31.1% batting average and an 8.4% walking percentage.

Chan, who signed with the Guardians from Taiwan in 2013, made his Cleveland debut in 2019 at the age of 23. He didn’t get many opportunities at the big league level in his first few seasons, but he did get extended runs. 228/.267/.426 and in 251 plate appearances he hit nine home runs that year. Cleveland named him to the assignment in 2022 after appearing in just four games, and he’s bounced around the league a bit since then.

On defense, Chan has typically spent time at first, second, and third base, but he has also seen some time at shortstop. Throughout his career, he was worth first two outs, second three outs and third four outs.

It’s unclear what kind of interest he has in the majors, but it seems likely that he’ll sign a minor-league deal that provides infield depth in case of injury. Trying to guess at interest is almost pointless. Minor because with a little more infield depth in his league contract, most teams can do.
