It’s unfair to Myers, and it’s unfair to Smith. Smith has been an excellent studio analyst for many years, and most of his games work concerns the world of college football. It might make sense for Fox to bring him back next fall, but do they really want to give Myers *another* new partner?

break down: The good news for Spero Dedes is that this is the highest score he has earned in these rankings. The bad news is that the ranking is still his second from the bottom. I don’t think it’s disrespectful to him. He usually just calls out the worst games on CBS’ schedule each week. Life is hard. I don’t often rate Jay Feely as his analyst on the game, but I like how he flexes his muscles as his analyst on kicks/specials his team.

break down: So going from Brian Griese quarterback to another Dan Orlovski quarterback wasn’t a sideways move, was it? We’ve shown it in a few games where the B team has called. It’s always difficult for a network like ESPN, which doesn’t often host multiple games over the weekend, to have his second broadcast team in addition to the first, but it’s a pretty big disparity.

break down: Amazon’s exclusive Thursday night broadcast this season felt like an NFL broadcast as opposed to some sort of sideshow event. But the broadcast team of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit didn’t always hit the high notes. They were working with other partners for the first time in years (in Herbstreith’s case, they called it college football), but they didn’t mesh well. The accompanying TNF schedule also did not solve the problem.

break down: I feel like I say it every year, but Darryl Johnston may be the most underrated analyst in sports. Fox can attach him to any partner, helping strengthen his booth. He did it with Kevin Burkhardt before he did it with Joe Davis. Davis is a much better baseball broadcaster than football, but he’s young enough that he should be able to improve with more reps and more restraint in the booth during football games.

Olsen still has his foot in the world of broadcasting, but I think he’ll be a solid analyst in time. break down: For years, Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts have been a fan favorite broadcast team. It was disappointing when Fouts left, but after leaving Fox and he paired up with Eagle, Charles Davis was good enough to replace him. The chemistry between the two is excellent, and the broadcasts are entertaining and informative. While his record hasn’t improved much from his two years, combined with changes in other highly rated teams and an overall decline, it’s his highest-ranked NFL broadcast team for the 2022 season. It’s a worthy and deserved honor.
