17. Chris Myers & Robert Smith (Fox) – 1.93

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 43.70%)
Previous score: N/A (Myers, Brock Huard, and Greg Jennings scored 2.09 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Myers, Brock Hurd and Greg Jennings are #13 of 15 in 2020)
break down: Robert Smith was Chris Myers’ fourth NFL Broadcast partner in the past three seasons (Brock Hurd and Greg Jennings in 2020 and Darryl Johnston in 2021). It’s unfair to Myers, and it’s unfair to Smith. Smith has been an excellent studio analyst for many years, and most of his games work concerns the world of college football. It might make sense for Fox to bring him back next fall, but do they really want to give Myers *another* new partner?

16. Spero Dedes & Jay Feely (CBS) – 2.09

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 49.85%)
Previous score: N/A (Dedes and Adam Archuleta scored 1.94 in 2018, 1.92 in 2019 and 2.07 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Dedes and Adam Archuleta ranked 14/15 in 2018, 12/14 in 2019, and 14/15 in 2020)
break down: The good news for Spero Dedes is that this is the highest score he has earned in these rankings. The bad news is that the ranking is still his second from the bottom. I don’t think it’s disrespectful to him. He usually just calls out the worst games on CBS’ schedule each week. Life is hard. I don’t often rate Jay Feely as his analyst on the game, but I like how he flexes his muscles as his analyst on kicks/specials his team.

15. Steve Levy, Louis Riddick, Dan Orlowski (ESPN) – 2.18

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 37.21%)
Previous score: N/A (Levi, Riddick and Brian Griese scored 2.51 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Levi, Riddick and Brian Griese are #8 of 15 in 2020)
break down: So going from Brian Griese quarterback to another Dan Orlovski quarterback wasn’t a sideways move, was it? We’ve shown it in a few games where the B team has called. It’s always difficult for a network like ESPN, which doesn’t often host multiple games over the weekend, to have his second broadcast team in addition to the first, but it’s a pretty big disparity.

14. Rich Eisen, Michael Irvin, Steve Mariucci, Kurt Warner (NFL Network) – 2.21

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 33.55%)
Previous score: none
Previous Ranking: none
break down: remember that time too many cooks What was it? Yes, that is this booth. Calling the game with 3 players, let alone 4, is too much. These four have such good chemistry together that while calling the game seemed like a good enough idea on paper, it works much better as an alternative broadcast. , is looser and more fun, and can be less focused on play-by-play on the field. Anyway, just an idea. In the booth he is four and he does not call one game.

13. Greg Gumbel & Adam Archuleta (CBS) – 2.22

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 36.79%)
Previous score: N/A (Gumbel and Rich Ganon scored 2.60 in 2020, Archuleta and Spero Dedes scored 1.94 in 2018, 1.92 in 2019 and 2.07 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Gumbel and Rich Ganon ranked 7/15 in 2020, Archuleta and Spero Dedes ranked 14/15 in 2018, 12/14 in 2019, and 14/15 in 2020)
break down: It’s a surprising placement for Greg Gumbel, who has slowly moved down the CBS pecking order over the past decade. Too bad he’s not the announcer he used to be. As for Adam Archuleta, I don’t have much to say. He’s always stuck near the bottom of the CBS analyst pecking order.

12. Andrew Catalon & James Lofton (CBS) – 2.25

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 50.87%)
Previous score: 2.01 (2018), 2.10 (2019), 2.23 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 15th 12th (2018), 14th 11th (2019), 15th 12th (2020)
break down: Andrew Catalon and James Lofton are doing well. In each of these rankings we’ve done, their scores have risen steadily, but other than a step-up in 2019 when the vote dropped one team, their ranks have remained unchanged. It won’t rock the ship, it won’t set the world on fire.

11. Adam Amine & Mark Schlereth (Fox) – 2.38

Most common grades: B (vote percentage 38.15%)
Previous score: 2.30 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 11 of 15 (2020)
break down: I like Adam Amin and I like Mark Schlereth. I don’t think I’m crazy when I say this team never did it for me. i like amine Schlereth’s studio work on his ESPN years ago was strong, but together in the booth something was missing. Compared to two years ago, their performance improved slightly and their ranking remained the same (placed below two new teams).

10. Kevin Coogler & Mark Sanchez (Fox) – 2.39

Most common grades: C (vote percentage 38.37%)
Previous score: N/A (Cogler and Chris Spielman scored 2.38 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Cogler and Chris Spielman are #10 of 15 in 2020)
break down: After years of hearing about his work on BTN, I’m a huge Kevin Kugler and his work with Mark Sanchez this season was fine. and need to adjust a little. This team still has room to grow.

9. Kenny Albert & Jonathan Vilma (Fox) – 2.50

Most common grades: B (vote percentage 41.63%)
Previous score: 2.41 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 9 of 15 (2020)
break down: Kenny Albert is a broadcaster who wants to be with young analysts like Jonathan Vilma. It’s been his third year together and although there have been signs of improvement, Vilma is still a bit rough around the edges. Like Mark Sanchez, he has the intelligence and energy to be a solid broadcaster, and is in the right place with the right partner to keep getting better.

8. Al Michaels & Kirk Herbstrait (Amazon) – 2.50

Most common grades: B (vote percentage 40.76%)
Previous score: N/A (Michaels and Chris Collinsworth scored 3.28 in 2018, 3.36 in 2019 and 3.51 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Michaels and Chris Collinsworth ranked 2 of 15 and 2 of 14 in 2018 (2 of 15 in 2019 and 2020)
break down: Amazon’s exclusive Thursday night broadcast this season felt like an NFL broadcast as opposed to some sort of sideshow event. But the broadcast team of Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit didn’t always hit the high notes. They were working with other partners for the first time in years (in Herbstreith’s case, they called it college football), but they didn’t mesh well. The accompanying TNF schedule also did not solve the problem.

7. Joe Davis & Darryl Johnston (Fox) – 2.85

Most common grades: B (vote percentage 45.21%)
Previous score: N/A (Johnston and Kevin Burkhardt scored 3.12 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Johnston and Kevin Burkhardt are #5 of 15 in 2020)
break down: I feel like I say it every year, but Darryl Johnston may be the most underrated analyst in sports. Fox can attach him to any partner, helping strengthen his booth. He did it with Kevin Burkhardt before he did it with Joe Davis. Davis is a much better baseball broadcaster than football, but he’s young enough that he should be able to improve with more reps and more restraint in the booth during football games.

6. Kevin Burkhart & Greg Olsen (Fox) – 3.08

Most common grades: B (vote percentage 39.66%)
Previous score: N/A (Burkhart and Darryl Johnston scored 3.12 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Burkhart and Darryl Johnston are #5 of 15 in 2020)
break down: Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen’s ranking is a bit tight, but the scores are pretty close to what Burkhardt and Daryl Johnston had two years ago. Olsen still has his foot in the world of broadcasting, but I think he’ll be a solid analyst in time. As for Burkhardt, he (of course) isn’t on the same level as Fox’s predecessor as the NFL’s premier voice, Joe Buck, but he’s not far off.

5. Mike Tillico & Chris Collinsworth (NBC) – 3.16

Most common grades: A (vote percentage 45.55%)
Previous score: N/A (Collinsworth and Al Michaels scored 3.28 in 2018, 3.36 in 2019 and 3.51 in 2020)
Previous Ranking: N/A (Collinsworth and Al Michaels ranked 2 of 15 and 2 of 14 in 2018 (2 of 15 in 2019 and 2020)
break down: A significant drop for Mike Tirico and Chris Collinsworth when compared to the previous top rankings of Al Michaels and Collinsworth. Tillico and Collinsworth still need time to build the chemistry Collinsworth had with Michaels, and given Tirico’s talent as a broadcaster, he could reach that level with more reps. can.

4. Jim Nantz & Tony Romo (CBS) – 3.18

Most common grades: A (vote percentage 49.67%)
Previous score: 3.29 (2018), 3.55 (2019), 3.60 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 1st of 15 (2018), 1st of 14 (2019), 1st of 15 (2020)
break down: For the first time, Jim Nantz and Tony Romo do not occupy the top spot in these rankings. They’re not even the highest ranked team in their own network. The pair are by no means bad, but Romo seems to have taken a step back in recent years. It’s easy to forget.

3. Joe Buck & Troy Aikman (ESPN) – 3.22

Most common grades: A (vote percentage 53.51%)
Previous score: 2.87 (2018), 2.91 (2019), 3.04 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 15th 6th (2018), 14th 5th (2019), 15th 6th (2020)
break down: ESPN got what they paid for the duo of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. The tired “Joe Buck sucks” trope finally seems dead, and with his more limited schedule, fans seem to hold him in higher esteem as a broadcaster. It’s the highest performance and highest ranking since the start of the ranking of Aikman and I think it can be said that it has finally been properly evaluated.

2. Kevin Harlan & Trent Green (CBS) – 3.25

Most common grades: A (vote percentage 46.07%)
Previous score: 3.29 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 3rd of 15 (2020)
break down: Kevin Harlan has done great work for so long that we take his work for granted. Even if you’re calling it a 3-choice AFC game, it’s a pleasure. Scores are down slightly from two years ago, but the previous drop has helped the pair move up the rankings.

1. Ian Eagle & Charles Davis (CBS) – 3.30

Most common grades: A (vote percentage 51.26%)
Previous score: 3.28 (2020)
Previous Ranking: 4th of 15 (2020)
break down: For years, Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts have been a fan favorite broadcast team. It was disappointing when Fouts left, but after leaving Fox and he paired up with Eagle, Charles Davis was good enough to replace him. The chemistry between the two is excellent, and the broadcasts are entertaining and informative. While his record hasn’t improved much from his two years, combined with changes in other highly rated teams and an overall decline, it’s his highest-ranked NFL broadcast team for the 2022 season. It’s a worthy and deserved honor.
