San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama was outdueled by his rival, Oklahoma City Thunders Chet Holmgren in their first matchup on Wednesday, causing the team to suffer a 105-93 loss.

Wembys subpar shooting performance was a major factor in tonights Spurs defeat.

The Spurs center played 27 minutes and only contributed six points, a career-low.

The Frenchman shot 1-for-5 from the field and failed to make any of his three attempts from three.

Wemby helped in other areas of the game with his eight rebounds and three blocks.

During the second quarter, Wemby had a mismatch against OKCs Ajay Mitchell in the post.

However, the 7-foot-3 center got tangled up with the defender, causing him to fall on the floor.

The Thunder had a fastbreak opportunity following that sequence on the post.

Following the sequence, San Antonio took a timeout, and Wemby immediately made his way, hobbling, to the locker room.

Fortunately, the big man returned to the court before the first half ended and played the whole game.

On the other hand, Holmgren had a great shooting night with his 19 points.

The 7-foot-1 center shot an efficient 70% from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.

The Thunder big man added five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Victor Wembanyama refused to say Holmgrens name Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren had a long-simmering feud even before they were NBA players.

The rivalry between them grew more intense after they were both in the league.

Even the 2024 Rookie of the Year award was up for grabs for the two young players.

The story around them has been tight ever since.

During Wednesdays broadcast of ESPNs NBA Today, insider Michael Wright discussed the two stars rivalry.

According to Wright, their on-court friction has gone as far as Wemby refusing to say Holmgrens name.

Victor will not even say the mans name, Wright said.

Thats pretty much been the theme ever since Victor Wembanyama arrived in San Antonio.

Monday night we specifically asked Victor Wembanyama about the matchup with Chet Holmgren.

This is what he said: Im excited to get back to winning ways.

Its always a good challenge to play Oklahoma City.
