Victor Wembanyama has undergone a serious body transformation ahead of his sophomore season in the NBA , having gained a significant amount of weight to deal with the physical demands of the league .

The San Antonio Spurs youngster, widely regarded as one of the most exciting Draft prospects in recent memory, was taken first overall last summer and enjoyed a solid debut season.

Dubbed 'The Alien', Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.6 blocks in 71 appearances across his first year.

At the age of 21, the Frenchman is only just getting started in the league, and has now bulked up significantly, having gained 25 pounds during the offseason.

At 7ft 3in, Wembanyama has a lot of frame to bulk into, and his size was clear to see as he posed with new team-mate Chris Paul, who is just 6ft tall.

Despite being in just his second year in the NBA, Wembanyama believes he's ready to take up a leadership role within the locker room.

He said: Im used to leading by example, in the locker room and at both ends of the court.

Both tactically and in the team spirit, I want to be, for example, the base of the defence, and also a little in attack.

If Im up to my standards and I help the team in the right way, Ill have a leading role in attack and defence.

Its something that should happen naturally.

Wembanyama led the Spurs to a playoff push last year, but was honest about what he and the team will need to add in order to take the next steps and make a run at the conference finals.

One of the things we talked about with the coach is that I wont have a second, third, fourth chance in a game any more, Wembanyama said.

There will be no more room for those mistakes.

Theres a lot of mental work to do.

Were going to encounter new difficulties this year.

We want to put ourselves in that position of being a winning team, a play-off team.

Its a culture that has to be established.

Bad habits are easier to adopt than good ones.

Reaching the play-offs or the play-offs is the minimum objective..
